[Inka cell]
Inka cells are endocrine cells, distributed along the tracheae of insects. They are a major component of the epitracheal gland in insects. Inka cells are producer cells for PETH [pre-ecdysis-triggering hormone] and ETH [ecdysis triggering hormone), both of which control the shedding of the remains of the old cuticle after molts (ecdysis). ETH is released in response to eclosion hormone produced by neurosecretory neurons. ETH, in turn, acts on these neurons to cause the release of eclosion hormone, thus creating a positive feedback contol loop (Ewer et al, 1997).
