[induced T-to-natural killer cells] This cell type has been described by Li P et al (2010). They emerge after deletion in thymocytes and also mature T-cells of the zinc finger transcription factor BCL11B, which is expressed in all T-cell compartments and is indispensable for T-lineage development.
BCL11B-deleted T-cells from all developmental stages acquire properties of NK-cells and concomitantly lose or decreased T-cell-associated gene expression. ITNK-cells are morphologically and genetically similar to conventional N-cells. They do not indiscriminately kill normal cells but kill tumor cells in vitro and effectively prevent tumor metastasis in vivo.
