[interleukin-8(81-99)] This C-terminal fragment of IL8 with the sequence KENWVQRVVEKFLKRAENS has been identified by Björstad et al (2005). The peptide is contained with an acid hydrolysis-generated fragment, IL8(80-99) with the sequence PKENWVQRVVEKFLKRAENS. The authors have referred to this peptide as IL8 peptide (IL8-derived peptide). IL8(81-99) shows antimicrobial activity being strongly active against Escherichia coli, weakly active against Salmonella enterica (MR10; rough LPS), more active against Klebsiella pneumoniae, and strongly active against Streptococcus pyogenes. The authors have not observed functional differences between the two
