IL12-p40
the p40 (40 kDa) subunit of IL12. This protein also forms biologically active homodimers. The p40 subunit of IL12 is also a component of IL23 and is therefore also being referred to as IL23-p40. Some cells such as macrophages and microglial cells have been shown to produce specifically the IL12-p40 subunit, but not IL12, under certain conditions (Constantinescu et al, 1996; Mottonen et al, 2002; Fernandez-Lago et al, 1999).
