[Interleukin-1 receptor family] The receptors belonging to this family of related proteins contain contain immunoglobulin-like domains in their extracellular portion and most of them are characterized by the presence of an intracellular TIR domain. Some of the family members function as signaling ligand-binding chains. Others function as accessory receptors. Two members are orphan receptors with unknown ligands. Two proteins are unconventional receptors (non-signaling ligand-binding or unable to bind IL1 ligands) (Boraschi and Tagliabue, 2006; O'Neill, 2008)
