[intercellular adhesion molecule 2] In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD102.
ICAM-2 has been identified and named by Staunton et al (1989) by by a functional DNA cloning method in search of proteins that allow leukocyte adhesion in the presence of antibodies blocking the function of the adhesion molecule ICAM-1, which is a ligand for the LFA-1 receptor. ICAM-2 is an integral membrane protein with two immunoglobulin-like domains, which are homologous with the first two immunoglobulin domains in ICAM-1. However, no immunological cross reactions are observed between these two proteins.
