[immunoglobulin binding factors] These factors are generated either by cleavage at the cell membrane or by splicing of a Fc receptor transmembrane exon (see also: CD16, CD32, CD64; see also: CD antigens). In addition there are other proteins with IBF activity that are probably different from Fc receptors. One IBF found in human seminal plasma shows complete identity with Prostatic secretory protein-94, Beta-microseminoprotein and Beta-Inhibin (see: Inhibins).
IBF activities function as cytokines able to suppress the immunoglobulin production by normal and transformed B-cells
