Hylambatin

Hylambatin has been isolated from the skin of the African frog Hylambates maculatus. This amidated neuropeptide (DPPDPDRFYGMMamide) belongs to the family of tachykinins but possesses a methionyl methionine residue at the C-terminus rather than the C-terminal tripeptide -Gly-Leu-Metamide.

Lippe et al (1998) have reported that hylambatin stimulates ion transport across frog skin.

Güllner et al (1984) have reported that intravenous injection significantly increases both plasma glucose and plasma insulin in the rat but does not affect the secretion of glucagon.

Inoue et al (1988) have reported that hylambatin and various fragments derived thereof are active in causing contractions in the guinea-pig ileum.
