abbr. HAMs. This term pertains to a population of microglial cells found in the brains of human Alzheimer's disease patients. These cells show a gene expression profile that is different from normal microglial cells and disease-associated microglia. Half of the cells show a profile consistent with human aging cells, whereas the other half expresses genes typical for Alzheimer's disease along with other non-aging related genes (Srinivasan et al, 2016).
