[Hughes blood group antigens]
abbr. Hga, first described by Rowe and Hammond (1983), is a low-incidence erythrocyte antigen. Jarolim et al (1998) have reported that a mutation at position 656 Arg>Cys of erythrocyte band 3 protein (CD233) is responsible for the Hughes blood group antigen. This antigen, therefore, can be assigned to the Diego blood group system.
