Histiocyte-secreted-factor

abbr. HSF (a term with multiple meanings). HSF has been purified as a 42 kDa protein from the conditioned medium of the histiocytic cell line TYH (see also: histiocytes) established from the peripheral blood of a patient with malignant lymphoma. The purified factor suppresses the growth of transplanted murine tumors but does not possess necrotizing activity. HSF does not show cytotoxic activity against mouse L cell fibroblasts. A similar factor has been purified from rabbit serum stimulated with Propionibacterium acnes and bacterial lipopolysaccharides.
