This peptide (lle-Ala-Arg-Arg-His- Pro-Tyr-Pro-Tyr-Phe; IARRHPYF) corresponds to des-Leu-kinetensin (see also: Kinetensin) (Mogard et al, 1986) isolated originally from incubates of mammalian albumins with the acid proteases, cathepsin D or pepsin. Histamine-releasing peptide was identified based on its ability to stimulate histamine release from isolated rat mast cells and increase cutaneous vascular permeability via a histamine-dependent mechanism when injected intradermally (Carraway et al, 1989).
