abbr. HRF (a term with multiple meanings). This is a general term used for factors that induce the release of histamines from basophils and/or mast cells when stimulated with antigens or mitogens.
HRF activities appear to be quite heterogeneous and to vary in physiochemical properties depending upon the cell source. Histamine release inhibitory activities have been described also (see: HRIF).
