abbr. HCGF (a term with multiple meanings). See also: HPGF. This factor is a lineage-indifferent hematopoietic regulatory factor (see also: hematopoiesis) originally found to be secreted into the conditioned medium of WEHI-3B myelomonocytic leukemia cells Bazil et al, 1983).
HCGF promotes proliferation and development of all myeloid hematopoietic progenitor cells. In addition, the factor also facilitates self-renewal of primitive totipotent hematopoietic stem cells (see also: CFU-S, CFC-Mix). HCGF can be used to generate continuously growing, non-leukemic, factor-dependent cell lines
