[Helicobacter cysteine-rich protein A] HcpA, referred to also as hp0211, is a secreted and highly disulfide-bridged protein from Helicobacter pylori. HcpA has been shown to trigger the differentiation of human myeloid Thp1 monocytes into macrophages and expression of the surface marker protein CD11b. Thus, HcpA acts as a bacterial immune modulator similar to a eukaryotic cytokine (Dumrese et al, 2009).
