[histidine triad nucleotide binding protein] This protein is one of several related and universally conserved proteins with adenosine monophosphate-lysine hydrolase activity (Brenner et al, 1999).
Martin et al (2005) have reported that human HINT2 has nucleoside phosphoramidase activity and also acts as a mitochondrial apoptotic sensitizer. HINT2 is localized in mitochondria and is expressed predominantly in liver and pancreas.
HepG2 cells overexpressing HINT2 and exposed to apoptotic stress show changes of the mitochondrial membrane potential, caspase activation, and fewer cells remain viable when compared with control cells. The opposite effects are observed in
