(NK4) A specific antagonist for HGF (hepatocyte growth factor) composed of 447 N-terminal amino acids of the alpha-chain of HGF. HGF/NK4 competitively inhibits the specific binding of HGF to its receptor, met, and also suppresses tyrosine phosphorylation of the receptor in the human colon carcinoma cell line HT115. HGF/NK4 almost completely inhibits the mitogenic, motogenic, and morphogenic activities of HGF (Date et al, 1997; Parr et al, 2000). Martin et al (2002) have shown that HGF/NK4 counteracts changes in the transendothelial resistance and paracellular permeability of human vascular endothelial cells induced by HGF.
