a naturally occurring truncated isoform of HGF (hepatocyte growth factor = scatter factor) composed of only the amino terminus and first kringle domain of the protein. NK1 acts as an antagonist of HGF in the absence of heparin. Heparan-sulfate proteoglycans have been shown to enhance binding of HGF-NK1 to the met receptor (Schwall et al, 1996).
