[heme-binding protein-1]; also: HEBP [heme-binding protein]. This protein has been identified by Taketani et al (1998) who cloned the mouse cDNA and referred to the protein as p22HBP. The authors have reported that the mouse binds protoporphyrin and coproporphyrin as well as bilirubin and fatty acids, suggesting that it may be involved in heme utilization for hemoprotein synthesis and even be coupled to hemoglobin synthesis during erythroid differentiation.
Jacob Blackmon et al (2002) have cloned the human cDNA for p22HBP
