[Histone deacetylase 7 7A peptide] This peptide with the sequence MHSPGAD (Met-His-Ser-Pro-Gly-Ala-Asp) is encoded by a small open reading frame within the 5' untranslated region of the mouse HDAC7 [histone deacetylase 7] gene. The 7A peptide is translated in vitro and in vivo from this reading frame in response to VEGF by vascular progenitor cells that express the stem cell antigen Sca-1. Downstream VEGF signalling involves phosphorylation of 7A peptide by activated mitogen-activated protein kinase MEKK1 and transfer of the phosphate group to 14-3-3-gamma.
