This human bone marrow stromal cell line was established by using a recombinant SV40-adenovirus vector (Aizawa et al, 1994). The cells produce GM-CSF and IL6. They also express substance P receptors.
When cocultured with nonadherent human bone marrow cells (see also: LTMBC) HAS303 cells support the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic cells and CFU-GM for more than 9 weeks, giving rise to granulocytes, macrophages, and megakaryocytes (see also: hematopoiesis).
