This peptide with the sequence RGDLATLRQLAQEDGVVGVR has been identified by phage display methods aimed at finding peptide that preferentially binds to non-small cell lung cancer cell lines (lung adenocarcinoma cell line H2009) (Oyama et al, 2003; McGuire et al, 2014). The peptide acts as a cell-targeting peptide and has been shown also to home in to xenografted tumors in vivo and bind to patient tumor samples. This peptide binds to the restrictively expressed integrin, integrin-alpha-V / integrin-beta-6, which is upregulated in many human non-small-cell lung carcinomas compared to normal lung tissue (Elayadi et al, 2007).
