[Gumprecht's shadow cell]
Called also shadow cells of Gumprecht. These cells are seen in blood films from patients with lymphoproliferative syndromes and particularly in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Morphologically, they are sometimes being referred to as basket cells (a term that is used also for other unrelated cell types). A statistically significant correlation between the numbers of such basket cells and lymphocytes with dense chromatin, and the anatomic-clinical stage of the disease does not exist. These cells are considered spreading artefacts, which are produced during the preparation of blood film slide (Binet et al, 1993).
