Granzyme M (approved gene symbol GZMM) is one of the neutral serine proteases (see: granzymes) that is located in the granules of cytotoxic T-cells and natural killer cells (Sayers et al, 2001; Krenacs et al, 2003). It is not detected in highly purified neutrophils, monocytes, or tumor cells of the myelomonocytic lineage (Sayers et al, 2001). Taniguchi et al (1999) have reported the existance of an alternative granzyme M transcript localized exclusively in the photoreceptor cells in the mouse retina and expressed only after the opening of the eye.
