abbr. GAPDH, which is also the approved gene symbol; abbr. also: GPD, GAPD, G3PD. This enzyme (EC1.2.1.12) catalyzes the conversion of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate to 1,3-diphosphoglycerate and thus is a key enzyme in intermediary metabolism. Mammalian enzymes are structurally closely related (Nagradova and Grozdova, 1974). Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is expressed widely in many tissues (Barber et al, 2005).
