GS-9L
This gliosarcoma cell line was obtained from a rat glioma induced with N-nitrosomethylurea.
The conditioned medium of these cells contains homodimers of VEGF and PlGF as well as heterodimers of both growth factor subunits.
Under conditions of hypoxia the cells upregulate the expression of mRNA for VEGF, but not that of aFGF, bFGF, PDGF-B.
Inhibition of tumor growth and prolonged survival is observed if GS-9L cells are coimplanted together with cells expressing retrovirus vectors containing an antisense RNA against VEGF.
