A human leukemia cell line used in bioassays of the colony stimulating factor GM-CSF (see also: CSF). GM-CSF activity is determined by measuring the incorporation of tritiated thymidine into the newly synthesized DNA of proliferating cells. Cell proliferation can be determined also by employing the MTT assay.
An alternative and entirely different method of detecting GM-CSF is RT-PCR quantitation of cytokines.
