This peptide, GYYYPSDPNTFYAPPYSA, corresponds to KETc7(69-85) of the immunodominant antigen KETc7 from the parasitic tapeworm Taenia crassiceps (Gevorkian et al, 1996). This antigen is one of several antigens that confer to mice different levels of resistance to murine cysticercosis (Manoutcharian et al, 1996). The peptide detects antibodies in serum from of infected mice, in sera and cerebrospinal fluid from patients with neurocysticercosis.
GK-1 peptide induces sterile protection against Taenia crassiceps cysticercosis in 40 to 70 % of BALB/cAnN male mice. GK-1 contains at least one B-cell epitope responsible for antibody responses and at least one T-cell
