[G0/G1 switch gene 2] This gene is one of the G0S [G0/G1 switch genes] genes. Russell and Forsdyke (1991) have reported that G0S-2 mRNA increases transiently within 1-2 hrs after exposure of cultured blood mononuclear cells to lectin or cycloheximide. The identified gene has structural features suggesting expression in the germ line and encodes a basic protein of 103 amino acids. The protein has been identified independently as AILE1 [augmented expression in SLE 1].
Role in metabolism
G0S-2is a physiological regulator of adiposity and energy metabolism. Choi H et al (2014) have reported that G0S-2 has a critical role in adipocyte differentiation, showing that knock-down of G0S-2 expression inhibits
