The three binding proteins for fibroblast growth factors have been named FGFBP1, FGFBP2, FGFBP3 (Hanneken et al, 1994). All three proteins are truncated forms of the high-affinity FGF receptor (FGFR1) found in human plasma and calf serum. FGFBP1 (70-85 kDa) and FGFBP2 (55-60 kDa) are proteins derived from the extracellular domain of FGFR1 and bind bFGF. FGFBP2 and FGFBP3 consist of the extracellular domain of the two-IgG-loop form of human FGFR1.
