[factor replacing macrophages] This biochemically uncharacterized factor of 35 kDa has been isolated from the conditioned medium of murine resident peritoneal macrophage cultures.
FRM can replace macrophages in the induction of the in vitro antibody response to sheep erythrocytes. When added at the outset of cultures it induces B-cells to generate an antigen-specific antibody response. FRM also markedly reduces both proliferation and cell cycle progression of B-cells stimulated with anti-mu plus IL4.
