The human FM-4 gene has been cloned by Howard et al (2000). The encoded protein of 412 amino acids is expressed in specific regions of the brain. FM-4 is a G-protein-coupled receptor that is a receptor for the neuropeptide neuromedin U. The receptor has been identified independently as TGR-1. The approved gene symbol for this receptor is NMUR2 [Neuromedin-U receptor 2].
