Erythroid promoting activity

abbr. EPA (a term with multiple meanings). This is a 28 kDa factor (Westbrook et al, 1984) with a length of 207 amino acids inferred from the cDNA sequence (including 23 amino acids functioning as a secretory signal sequence) (Gasson et al, 1985; Gasson et al, 1985). The factor is produced by K562 erythroleukemia cells, which also repond to the factor by enhanced growth in a colony formation assay, suggesting an activity as autocrine growth factor (Avalos et al, 1988).

The activity of this protein is not species-specific (Gasson et al, 1985). The factor stimulates the growth of the immature hematopoietic progenitors BFU-E and CFU-E (Strife et al, 1987) and also has an effect on erythropoiesis ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
