abbr. EDF (a term with multiple meanings). This homodimeric factor of 25 kDa is isolated from the conditioned medium of some human monocytic leukemia cell lines. It induces the differentiation of murine erythroleukemic cells and human K562 cells.
This factor is a homodimeric protein composed of a subunit that is identical with the betaA subunit of Activin A. The factor, therefore, is referred to frequently as Activin A/EDF. The sequences of EDF derived from pigs, cattle, and rats are almost identical with the human factor.
