Enterostatin is a bioactive fragment released by proteolytic cleavage from the proform of CLPS [colipase], a 10 kDa protein secreted by the exocrine pancreas, gut endocrine cells (Sörhede et al, 1996), and gastric mucosa, (Sörhede et al, 1996), where it interacts with pancreatic triglyceride lipase to facilitate the digestion of dietary fats (Erlanson-Albertsson, 1992). The protein has been referred to as colipase 86 by Sternby et al (1984) who reported the 86 amino acid sequence of the human enzyme isolated from pancreas. The human colipase cDNA has been cloned by Lowe et al (1990). The propiece is present and highly conserved in all procolipase molecules, from dogfish to humans
