A subgroup of the G-protein-coupled receptor family defined by a unique hybrid structure, in which a variable number of an extracellular aminoterminal EGF-like repeat are coupled to a seven-span transmembrane moiety via a mucin-like stalk that serves as a spacer (McKnight and Gordon, 1998). Members of this family usualy have different protein isoforms generated through alternative splicing and varying in the number of EGF-like domains. Members of this receptor family are expressed predominantly on cells of the immune system.
They are probably involved in mediating adhesion events, either to extracellular matrix molecules, or a ligand expressed on other cell types. They may playe a role also in cell migration or as a G-protein-coupled signaling component (Stacey et al, 2000).
Members of this family include
