[Drosophila Programmed Cell Death 5] This Drosophila melanogaster protein, encoded by gene CG13072, is related to mammalian PDCD5 [programmed cell death-5].
The protein has been implicated in cell death by apoptosis involving DNA damage and Tip60 histone acetyltransferase (Xu L et al, 2009; Pirooznia et al, 2012). Drosophila PDCD5 has been shown also to be involved in defense responses to infection with the Gram-negative bacterium (Serratia marcescens) and the positive regulation of innate immune response (Cronin et al, 2009).
Telonis-Scott M et al (2009) have identified Drosophila PDCD5 as a candidate gene associated with cold resistance.
