This protein, encoded by Drosophila melagogaster gene CG5249, is the fly homolog or PRDM1 [PR domain containing 1; PR domain-containing protein 1]. Drosophila BLIMP1 has been identified by Ng T et al (2006). The gene is expressed in diverse cell types during the course of embryogenesis. Its activity is critically required for the maturation of the tracheal system into properly differentiated tubes. Agawa Y et al (2007) have reported that Drosophila BLIMP1 is a transient transcriptional repressor that controls timing of the ecdysone-induced developmental pathway. The transcription factor is expressed in the early stage of the prepupal period
