abbr. DIP (a term with multiple meanings). This protein of 14 kDa has been isolated from plasma ultrafiltrates of patients with uremia. At concentrations in the nanomolar range, DIP inhibits spontaneous degranulation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes but does not affect cellular functions such as chemotaxis, phagocytosis, and the oxidative respiratory burst.
DIP levels are elevated significantly in patients undergoing dialysis. DIP is identical with the angiogenesis factor angiogenin.
