This antimicrobial peptide, SLLSLIRKLIT, has been isolated from the venom of the solitary eumenine wasp, Oreumenes decoratus (Konno et al, 2007). The peptide is active against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus thuringiensis, Gram-negative Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Alcaligenes faecalis, and yeast Candida albicans. It only shows weak activity against Leishmania. The peptide is not hemolytic and shows moderate activity for mast cell degranulation. The natural form is not amidated. However, C-terminal amidation improves activity.
