Cystatin SA

Approved gene symbol: CST2 [cystatin-2]. This protein is a member of the cystatin superfamily of cysteine proteases. The human gene has been cloned by Saitoh et al (1987). Dickinson et al (2002) have reported that Cystatin SA is expressed only in submandibular gland and parotid gland.

Isemura et al (1987) have isolated Cystatin SA from human whole saliva and shown that the protein is highly related to Cystatin S and Cystatin SN. Cystatin SA inhibits ficin (EC3.4.22.3, a cysteine protease from fig tree latex) and papain more strongly than cystatin S or cystatin SN and also moderately inhibits dipeptidyl ... ... ... ... ...
