abbr. CIF (a term with multiple meanings). This factor has been found in crude extracts of normal human neutrophils. It inhibits the production of CSA (colony stimulating activity) by monocytes and macrophages in vitro (Broxmeyer et al, 1978). CIF is identical with Lactoferrin.
The name refers to the ability of the factor to inhibit the formation of colonies in a Colony formation assay.
