abbr. CASP6. This enzyme is a member of a family of evolutionarily conserved cysteine protease proteins known as caspases. Many of these enzymes are part of a proteolytic cascade that plays a central role in cell death by apoptosis. The enzyme has been described as MCH2.
For an immunotoxin based on the use of caspase-6 see also: immunocasp-6.
Klaiman et al (2008) have identified 24 different potential protein substrates of caspase-6 in proteins of neurons. Of these, 40 % are cytoskeleton or cytoskeleton-associated proteins, and include alpha-Tubulin, alpha-Actinin-4, Spinophilin, and Drebrin.
