Calpain 6

abbr. CAPN6. Calpain 6 belongs to the family of calcium-dependent intracellular nonlysosomal cysteine proteases known as calpains. Calpain 6 differs from previously identified vertebrate calpains in that it lacks a calmodulin-like domain IV and also contains only 1 of 3 conserved cysteine protease active site residues (Dear et al, 1997). The protein is expressed primarily in placenta (Dear et al, 1997). Matena et al (1998) have reported the genomic structure of the murine gene.

Tonami et al (2007) have reported that Calpain 6 is a microtubule-stabilizing protein expressed in embryonic tissues that may be involved in the regulation of microtubule dynamics and cytoskeletal organization.
