This term pertains to a class of chemotactic cytokines, known as chemokines, found specifically in the genome of zebrafish (Danio rerio) (Yoshizawa et al, 2008). This class does not exist in other species. The four possible zebrafish chemokines, CXL-chr12a, CXL-chr19a, CXLchr24a, and CXL-chr24b, miss one of the two N-terminus conserved cysteine residues characteristic of other chemokines and retain only three of the four conserved signature cysteine residues of chemokines.
