This peptide, Cys-Arg-Pro-Pro-Arg, has been identified by Zhang et al (2005) by in vivo phage display selection. By sequence it is a member of the C-end Rule peptides group.
The peptide acts as a homing peptide that selectively targets heart endothelial cells. Zhang et al (2005) have identified CRIP2 [cysteine-rich protein 2] as a putative receptor expressed on heart endothelial cells. Zhang et al (2008) have reported that liposomes coated with this peptide home in to heart tissues.
