[caerulein-precursor fragment C1] This antimicrobial peptide (GFGSLLGKALRLGANVL) has been isolated from norepinephrine-stimulated skin secretions of the tetraploid frog Xenopus clivii Peracca, 1898 (Pipidae). CPF-C1 inhibits the growth of the Gram-negative bacteria Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Conlon et al, 2011). CPF-C1 has potent antimicrobial activity against both sensitive and multidrug-resistant bacteria. It acts as a defense peptide that disrupts the outer and inner membranes of bacterial cells and shows low cytotoxicity against mammalian cell (Xie et al, 2014).
