[C-type lectin domain family 2 member A] This transmembrane protein is a C-type lectin-like receptor that is expressed selectively on keratinocytes. It has been described independently as KACL [keratinocyte-associated C-type lectin] (Spreu et al, 2007). Huarte et al (2008) have identified the protein as PILAR [proliferation-induced lymphocyte-associated receptor].
Alternative splicing gives rise to four CLEC2A variants differing in the usage of the transmembrane domain and/or in the carboxyterminal portion of the C-type lectin-like domain. CLEC2A transcripts are detected primarily in myeloid cell lines, but not in epithelial cell
