This murine mast cell line, obtained by culturing fetal liver from NFS/N mice in IL3 (Brown et al, 1987), has been used for some studies of bioactivities and biochemistry of mast cells and to probe roles of mast cells under physiological and pathological conditions. For examples of mice lacking mast cells to probe their functions in vivo see: mast cell-deficient mice.
