(mixed colony-forming cells; mixed colony-forming units) The term refers to human multipotential hematopoietic progenitors that give rise to colonies containing all types of mature myeloid cells (see also: hematopoiesis), including erythrocytes, neutrophils, macrophages, eosinophils, mast cells, megakaryocytes, when grown in soft agar (see also: Colony formation assay).
This cell type is more or less ill defined because some of the more mature forms may be missing in individual colonies. However, comparison with similar cell types in mice
